How the Studio Design App Works

## Studio apartment design ideas for your actual room, in minutes, not weeks.

Most studio layouts fail for the same three reasons: bad zoning, the wrong bed wall, and furniture that is the wrong scale. Framehouse fixes all three from a single photo, then hands you the four-step playbook below.

01

![Studio apartment photo ready for AI redesign](/assets/how-it-works-1-C-tkxHNx.gif)

### Upload your studio

Snap one photo of your studio. The app reads your real walls, windows, and proportions, so every layout and idea fits the space you actually have. Your photos stay private.

02

It even gave me specific pieces I could buy that were in the images. Really impressed and happy to finally be turning my blah living room into something I love"

Before and After

## Real studio apartments, redesigned.

Real rooms from real members, not stock renders. Every after started as a single phone photo of a lived-in studio. Drag to compare the before and the Framehouse transformation.

Look closely and you will notice the moves a designer makes by instinct in a small studio apartment. The bed steps away from the door to create an entry moment. A single rug anchors the lounge zone of the studio apartment layout and quietly tells the eye where one room ends and another begins. The palette stays disciplined, usually two warm neutrals and one accent, so the space reads as one composition instead of five competing ideas. One sculptural piece, a floor lamp or an arched mirror, does the heavy lifting visually so the rest can stay calm. These are the same decisions Framehouse applies to your photo, in seconds, at every square foot.

Every Footprint Is Different

## Every studio layout is a different problem. Plans for your square footage.

A 12x12 in a postwar walk-up and a 380 sq ft loft conversion need completely different floor plans. Framehouse reads the room you actually have and proposes studio apartment layout ideas trained on the closest comparable studios, so the plan fits your four walls, not a generic template.

Around 144 sq ft

### The 12x12 studio

The hardest brief in the city: one square room where the bed, the desk, and the sofa all want the same wall. The fix is verticality. Tall storage, a low-profile or lofted bed, and a single pendant over the eating spot keep the floor open and the eye moving up.

The classic studio, 400 sq ft studio apartment ideas

### 300 to 400 sq ft studios

Enough room for three real zones if you commit to them. Anchor the lounge with a rug, push the bed to the wall opposite the kitchen, and mark the threshold with a slim console or bench. Where the window falls changes the whole layout, and the app plans around it.

Radiators, arches, plaster, very small studio apartment layout

### Very small and prewar studios

The character that makes prewar units charming also makes them tricky. Radiators eat wall space, picture rails limit hanging, and floors are rarely square. Framehouse treats these quirks as features, building palettes that flatter original moldings and arched doorways instead of fighting them.

Lofts, alcoves, conversions

### Open-plan and L-shape

An open footprint sounds freeing until you try to furnish it. The answer is implied architecture: a console behind the sofa, a wide rug under the bed, a runner that pulls you toward the kitchen. Each move suggests a wall without building one.

Layout and Furniture

## The three decisions that make or break a studio apartment layout.

A studio lives or dies on a handful of choices. Get these right and the rest is just decoration, and the app makes each call for you, with the reasoning a designer would give.

### Zoning a single room

Define three zones at most: sleep, lounge, and work or dine. Each zone needs its own floor anchor, a rug, a runner, or a change in lighting, so the eye reads separate rooms without a single wall. More than three zones and a studio starts to feel cluttered, not clever.

### Where the bed goes, and how to divide a studio without walls

The bed is the largest object in the room, so its wall sets the whole plan. Keep it off the wall you see first from the door, and out of the path between the entry and the window. To separate the bed area without walls, use implied dividers: a low headboard, an open shelf or console behind the bed, a curtain track, or a rug that frames the sleep zone. The app suggests the right room divider idea for your footprint without closing off light.

### Scale, rugs, and sightlines

Buy the biggest rug your budget allows, not the smallest. A rug that floats in the middle of a studio shrinks the room. Scale furniture to the ceiling height, not the floor area. And keep the sightline from the entry to the furthest window clear: that single open line is what makes a small space feel generous.

Studio Apartment Storage Ideas

## Studio apartment storage ideas that do not eat the room.

In a studio, storage and floor space fight for the same square footage, so every storage piece has to earn its footprint. The rule: store up, not out. Framehouse builds storage into the layout from the start, not as an afterthought.

### Go vertical

Tall, shallow shelving and floor-to-ceiling wardrobes hold more while taking less floor than wide, low units. Draw the eye up and the studio reads taller.

### Use the dead space

Under the bed, above the door, over the kitchen cabinets, behind the sofa, a studio has more hidden storage than it looks. The playbook flags the spots specific to your room.

### Make furniture do double duty

A storage bed, a lift-top coffee table, an ottoman that opens, a bench at the threshold. Every piece that hides clutter buys back open floor, which is what makes a studio feel designed instead of crammed.

Styles for Studios

## Studio apartment design ideas we love, by style.

These are five of the hundred-plus directions the app can generate. Each is built for small footprints, where palette discipline and one statement piece carry the whole room.

### Parisian Japandi

Pale oak, bouclé, and a single black line. Japanese minimalism softened by French warmth. This japandi studio apartment look reads expensive at any square footage.

### Sunlit Minimal

Warm whites, raw linen, and negative space as a design choice. A minimalist studio apartment that feels like a gallery you happen to live in.

### Modern Studio

Clean lines, low-profile furniture, and a restrained palette. The modern studio apartment design that photographs as well as it lives.

### Postmodern Brownstone

Saturated color blocks against original moldings. A nod to Memphis with grown-up restraint. Best for prewar studios with character to play against.

### Botanical Gallery

Deep greens, brass, and layered plants against a moody backdrop. Turns a plain box into a room with a point of view.
